“ Why is road safety important ?” you ask?? Well, because road accidents are the Number 1 cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29, and the 8 th leading cause of death for all age groups, across the globe, that’s why! Road Accident Statistics: Global & Indian Scenario Road safety is a grave issue worldwide and is an excellent opportunity to save lives, but somehow it does not receive the attention it deserves A study by the World Health Organisation (WHO) puts the figure of deaths from road traffic crashes to 1.35 million a year – that is around 3700 people dying globally every day! The study further states that between 20-50 million people suffer road accident-related injuries, including disability. Under-developed and developing nations bear most of these fatalities. Chief factors for this trend are rapid urbanisation, poor safety standards, lack of enforcement and corruption; sub-standard safety signage and equipment, lack of training – both i
