The Need of The Hour: Accident Investigation Training In India | IRTE

Accident investigation training in India is a field which has not got the attention it deserves. Individuals who investigate on-road accidents lack the requisite skills for the job. This is one of the foremost reasons why there is a gap in the execution of a proper investigation.

People in the field of accident investigation training in India lack the tools to record the evidence scientifically. These tools can help in reaching the root cause of an incident, the entire chain of events and the underlying causes.

A thorough investigation prevents a blame game and helps to pinpoint what exactly happened and who is to be blamed.

The aim is to prevent the road user from being blamed for all accidents. Producing solid proof of any wrongdoing on the road by a rider or a driver is the way to achieve that.

The Need For Accident Investigation Training In India

Every day so many people suffer injuries due to on-road incidents. A lot of people also die due to such incidents. Proper accident investigation can help to curb the menace by enabling individuals to uncover the ‘why’, ‘how’, ‘when’, ‘where’ and most importantly the ‘who’ of a lot of such incidents.

This would help uncover the entire scenario and bring those who are guilty to justice.

The Role Of IRTE

One institution, which is vigorously attempting to curb this menace through their efforts is the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE). Their Collision Analysis & Research Laboratory ( CRASH Lab), has been developed by the organisation’s in-house research wing.

Along with road safety investigation, the CRASH Lab technology also helps in conducting road safety audits, highway management programmes and journey risk management.


Maintaining safety on the road should be the top priority for traffic law enforcers. Accident investigation training in India needs to be a top priority for the traffic police department.
